Cisco Secure Client: VPN for University at Buffalo Access

Overview: Cisco Secure Client is the Virtual Private Network (VPN) solution used at the University at Buffalo (UB) to create a secure connection to the university's network when working off-campus. It is required for accessing UB shared network drives (such as the H: drive) and library resources.

Cisco Secure Client at the School of Nursing: Cisco Secure Client is part of the standard installation for School of Nursing devices. If you need Cisco Secure Client for a personal device, please refer to the UB VPN documentation for installation and basic usage instructions.

Installation Instructions for Personal Devices:

  1. Visit the UB VPN page for installation and basic usage guidelines.

  2. Follow the step-by-step installation instructions for your operating system (Windows, Mac, etc.).

  3. Once the installation is complete, open Cisco Secure Client.

Connecting to School of Nursing Resources:

  1. Open Cisco Secure Client.

  2. Type in vpn.buffalo.edu this will be remembered at next log in, then select Connect.

                
  3. From the drop-down, select "Nursing" as your VPN group.

                
  4. Enter your UB credentials, and click OK.

  5. In the Answer field or Passcode field enter one of the following for Duo:​​​​​​​
  • Enter the device number (e.g., through 4) or device alias* (e.g., push1, etc.) that corresponds to the verification method you wish to use or A passcode

Important Notes:

  • Ensure that you have a stable internet connection before attempting to connect.
