Software Request

Service Description 

This service is available to School of Nursing faculty and Staff for the following software-related requests:

  • Assistance with the purchasing of new software licenses and installation processes.
  • Support for downloading and installing free or open-source software on your devices.
  • Re installation of software that was previously installed on your devices.

* Note: All new software request must go through an approval process by the School of Nursing IT department, and the University at Buffalo Software Review Process to insure it meets licensing, security, and accessibility requirements. Some software has been pre approved for particular scenarios, however the list is currently not openly available.

Service Audience 

School of Nursing Faculty, Staff, including Students who are employed by the School of Nursing requesting assistance with School of Nursing technology  

Roles and Responsibilities

Requester Responsibilities:

  • Provide Contact information
  • Provide Details for the software request
  • For New Purchases including open source and Free Software not previously used:
    • Provide funding source if software needs to be purchased (Cannot be purchased with personal funds)
    • Provide Name of Product
    • Provide Name of Vendor
    • Provide Product Website
    • Provide a description of the product and the business purpose (use) 
    • Provide Data Classification to be utilized by/within this Product
      • Category 1 - Restricted (SS#, credit card (PCI), bank account #, driver license, HIPAA)
      • Category 2 – Private (FERPA, Student Records, Final Course Grades, Protected Research Data)
      • Category 3 – Public Data) Alumni name, mailing address, email address)

Technology Services Responsibilities:

  • Communicate the status of the request to the user as needed.
  • Notify if the software is currently approved or if it will need to go through the review process
  • Complete the Software Review Process with UB 
  • Install any approved requested software either in person, through remote tools, or pushed through Software Center
